i get that alot too. its when you lay the line down, sit back and play it, and its from another song, but you didnt do it on purpose, it just came to mind.... the best way to avoid it happening is not to listen to ANY music anymore, and just "bring out" what you feel. music isnt something we just make to kick back with, music is actually what we feel inside about something, or what we're going through. Dr Dre expresses what he feels when he went through bad times... and somehow everyone felt him too.

THESE ARE CALLED ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES. AND TO SOME DISCOVERY
EVEN TH BEST DO THIS . SCALES AND ALL THAT SHI_ WONT HELP
WHAT YOU MIGHT DO IS WHEN YOU START TO HEAD TOWARDS BITING .
BACK OUT OF THE BEAT AND CHANGE ITS COMPOSITION GET IT AS FAR AWAY FROM THE KNOWN TRAK AS POSSIBLE.. ALSO CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THINKING
KILL THE GOD DAMN RADIO AND BE THE MUSICIAN YOU KNOW YOU ARE . RADIO MUSIC IS FOR COMMERCIAL DRIVEN AUDIENCE
YOU MY NIGGA ARE ORIGINAL .. LISTEN TO ORIGINALITY..
DISCOVERY IS GOOD BUT .INVENTION IS AWESOME

this happens to me! with melodies... but only when i compose dance music! when i write different genres of music i use different methods to compose. Maybe try and think up a new way to go about it. try composing in a midi file writer like guitar pro. when i write classical pieces that's how i do it.
also yes, u need to know scales! when you know what your doing you'll work more efficiently. if i had one suggestion for learning music theory simplistically, it would be this. watch an old video of marty friedman ( a guitarist), i can't remember what the vids called but just youtube it or something.
