My Software...
I use FL7(Fruity Loops 7)...It has lots of stuffs...  I think it is za best program for music composing and it also has the option to make your keyboard the piano.

does anybody know what software dr. dre uses. and what would be a good production software for mac, something more advanced than garageband

Propellerhead Reason is probably the best thing out there for Mac. Definitely try Reason, i think they have a trial version on their site. It has tons of features and produces great sound.

i use ejay hip hop 6 and i currently have the demo for fl studio 7, but its too pricey about $200 usd

ejay hip hop is not real producing software....
It's one of those "have fun with music" type of software for kids.
Definitely build up your skills on FL. you can make some pretty legit stuff with that.

at least garageband is better than ejay...
one of the biggest problems i have with garageband is its exporting ability. It's so hard to get it to MP3 because it exports in these weird mac formats.
Getting your beats to be "loud" on garageband is also hard. and the worst part is that it doesn't let you import sounds!! so stupid!
But it's definitely a great learning tool for beginners.

i use fruity loops 7 on pc and wwen i go to the studio and use the mac i use garage band..
