The Mpc2000xl is a great start If you are on a shoestring budget you can get a reasonable laptop or desktop pc an m-audio interface that is Pro-tools mpowered compatible and come out a lil bit cheaper than getting the new avid MBox.
Also you may want to go to your local guitar center and if they still have the old M-Boxes your bound to get it at a nice price since they don't make them anymore and you can still upgrade to the latest pro-tools software. If you are a sampled based producer like I am. with some out the box thinking you can make some pretty cool beats with the MPC alone if you know how to use it. A lot of producers can use just the MPC and some sampled sounds instruments and vinyl and track out a full complete beat(yours truly included...lol) then what they do is track it into pro-tools or another DAW of there choice. Sorry for rambling but your question was pretty open if you give a lil more details about what you wish to accomplish I probably can help you out a little bit more. _________________ Overlor
