Which methods do most Hip Hop Producers prefer Sampling or Keyboard Melodies?

I'd imagine a combination of both, lol, most PRODUCERS just do what's necessary to achieve the desired sound, so weather that be sampling and playing a keyboard over it or sampling multiple things.. it's all producing feel me?lol

yeah,i agree with simpleBLUE too,lot producers doo both to get the sound they want,but Dre never samples melodies. he always replays them so he can control the sound.

Is that true about Dre? Very interesting. I like that method the best, but of course that is testing your hardware and/or software to create the type of timbre that you are looking for. I personally use a combination of sampling and my own playing.

I used to only use my own stuff, but I think that it is hard to create the same warm feeling that sample-based hip hop produces. There is something special about it that is hard to capture by yourself. You can make (arguably) as good songs without sampling, but again it depends on your equipment, skills, and will sound a little different without sampling.
