To make a demo with Acapellas or not?
Hi guys,
I've been thinking a lot lately of how to get started getting my beats out there and was wondering if anyone more experienced could give me some advice.
I'm really happy with a lot of my beats and dig the vibe they have a lot but I notice a lot of guys often do their own mini remixes of rap and R&B tunes with Acapellas to give their beats a vocal.
Do you think this is a good way of presenting yourself to a label or potential clients or do you think it could actually hinder you?
My thinking is, there is no simple answer, in some ways it could help if an A&R rep is listening to it he could get a better idea of where you're trying to go with your beats.
But it could also be bad, because then you might be adding a "stamp" if you will to the sound that's not as fresh as if an artist heard it and was coming up with his own ideas just from the beat rather than being tainted by another existing song on the top.
The thing I like about using Acapellas is that it's a much fuller more professional sound straight up rather than making the potential client have to use their imagination more than they have to, EG if your demo lands on someone's desk they might not really care if you're using a big fat 909 kick that you tweaked by recording it through a pint of whiskey,
They want to hear the big picture like BAM, and not have to listen to 20 seconds of beat just to get to the point and be like "Oh I see where he's going with this, I could use this for such and such".
Thoughts?
