Hip-hop music has become one of the most popular styles of music in United States of America. It consists of two components such as rapping and record scratching. These two components when combined with break dancing and graffiti develop the important elements of hip-hop music. If you wish to enter in the field of hip-hop beat production, you need to understand more about hip-hop music.

So you want to get into hip-hop/rap/R&B production and you don’t really know how? Well, it’s way easier than you may think. With just a few items, you could be well on your way to being the next Timbaland, Dre, or Alchemist.
So where do you start? First off, you need to make sure you have the right software. A lot of people out there like to sample beats and use other people’s music, but you want to be original. Reason 4.0 – Propellerhead’s Reason is one of the most dynamic pieces of software you can have in your arsenal. It’s relatively inexpensive, yet it allows you to produce nearly any sound you can think of via a vast range of synths, drum machines, and effects. It is very user friendly, and produces a powerful, professional sound. Nearly every major producer has used Reason at one point in his or her career. Read the rest of this entry »

Is it relevant
to the new hip hop heads coming up? Much of the current artists’ music has become sample based, and it has gained a lot of popularity. What do you think of sampled-based production versus composition based production?

Our school always does a pep rally for homecoming. At the pep rally they play silly little games and my class always wins because we’re the biggest (103). The highlights of the whole thing are the hip hop dances. This year I am teaching both dances (the seniors and the faculty) but my goal is to involve all of the seniors even the ones who don’t want to dance into at least one part of the hip hop. I need ideas besides just having them hold signs and then walking out with all of the dancers at the end. Please help!

I’ve always been REAL interested in making hip hop beats…. i’m a huge fan of hip hop and i think it would be awesome to be a producer. I was wondering if there are colleges (specifically in the Cleveland, Ohio area) that offer courses on music production? What would be my best bet on getting into the hip hop production career? Taking classes or just buying equipment and reading books or what not? Thanks!
