Is it relevant
to the new hip hop heads coming up? Much of the current artists’ music has become sample based, and it has gained a lot of popularity. What do you think of sampled-based production versus composition based production?

Well to answer you question from my perspective, as a hip hop producer/Music producer/Engineer/Musician, I would say, if you are a producer it is very important to study and use both. If you are beat maker just starting out who is striving and working on getting to the producer status, when you start out most people are beat makers or programmers in my opinion, and throw in there sometimes a strong musician which is how i started and is very important and very helpful. Being a producer is something that takes some time and a lot of time and a lot of unseen work. Because being a producer is not that you just make hot beats. its knowing all aspects of your music and knowing how to get the sound the artist is visioning in their head with also knowing how to deliver it to the listener. To me being a producer is much like being a Beat maker/composer/musician/engineer/programmer/songwriter/arranger. Now with that said; Sample based hip hop is very important to the producer. For someone starting out and not being that musician that is very good or not one at all, it gives you a lot to work with because you are working with a piece of produced music. Its mixed and mastered, its got natural groove which too me is very important, it has the melodies and the backbone depending on what samples you are working with. Working with samples helps you learn these things and understand them better. Along with the cutting of waveforms, filtering and using the eq, which helps on the engineer side of things. In many cases sample based production helps the producer work on their composition work when they don’t even know it and not even working on it.

Till next time, i gotta jet right now but i hope my perspective gave you some insight. J.JetsonProductions
